Time Here All But Means Nothing

I wanted to just give you a heads up on the happenings of my short story with Membra Disjecta: Scattered Things.

Unfortunately, they’ve suffered some set backs due to a WordPress update (only fuels my conspiracy theory about WordPress- and solidifies my resolve to NEVER update), but they’ve been working tirelessly and promise it will be up shortly! Estimated date of arrival: Wednesday, April 30th. Also known as tomorrow! :D *crosses fingers*

If that is in fact the case, you are all in for some goodies. The issue is full to the brim with amazing stuff. I know cause I’ve peeked. Ha ha. I admit it. I have no willpower.

I do however come bearing a gift. A little image that will give you a ‘clue’ as to what my short story featured in the magazine is about. Remember, the theme for the issue is transformation:

Any takers? ;)

You’ll know soon enough!

The Night's a Perfect Shade of Dark Blue

My mind is in a million different places at once. There’s a voice speaking pretty loudly in my head, but she’s speaking muffled words I don’t really understand. I think the muse is trying to communicate with me but there’s some interference. Creative static? ;) I don’t know. But I think tonight calls for the type of writing you do in an old, beat up journal, to the sound of the rain falling pitter-patter on the roof.

During the day, the rain might seem like an inconvenience, but at night, when it’s late and you’re crawled up under the covers, it’s kind of nice to hear it fall. Lulling, really. I’m looking forward to it. Maybe it’ll help put me in the right frame of mind. My heroine is actually very closely associated to the rain. Coincidence? I think not. The muse is definitely trying to tell me something. I just wish she’d use a language I understand.

On another note, I got some bookmarks that I ordered which I’m very excited about! The quality is great, and the paper stock is sturdy. I love them! I’ll be sending those out with gift packages and book giveaways and such. *mini squee!*

Hope you’ve all had a groovy Monday.

Superheroines

Despite my attempt to be dark, mysterious, and sexy, I think overall I’m just a cynical everyday girl who gets her kicks from friends and reading. Nothing evidenced this more than my test results for which supheroine are you? I wanted someone like Tempest Knight’s superheroine: Elektra. Sexy clothes. Kick butt skills. I though, oh yea, I’ll get someone really awesome.

And I did. Just not who I expected. ;)

You Are Buffy the Vampire Slayer

“We saved the world. I say we have to party.”

What Superheroine Are You?

Strangely enough, if I really think about it, that quote is exactly something I’d say. Ha ha. So, I guess Buffy ain’t so bad. She was actually pretty kick butt herself. And she made me laugh.

Wrapped in a Bow

I have a confession to make. One that might make you think differently of me. Are you ready?

I don’t like surprises. I know. That’s pretty terrible isn’t it? It’s mostly because I’m a party pooper and demand to be in control of things at all times. Ha ha. What? At least I can admit it. ;)

So, imagine my surprise when two days ago, while cleaning out  my inbox I found a little goodie. A Prologue, written for the second book of my fantasy series, which I’ve been having some trouble with. Now, normally, I’d toss it away as old news. I tend to write and rewrite until I ‘feel’ it. Because usually, a story demands a certain voice, a certain tone, and I don’t always get that right on the first try. I know this about myself. It’s why it took me four versions before I finally realized what had to be done with Book 1.

Now, Book 2… well Book 2 is much darker. MUCH darker. Even for me, and I tend to sometimes get into a strange head space. But after reading through that prologue, I realized, you know what? It HAS to be that way. I ‘ve been trying to do all these different things with the piece and I think that’s why it isn’t working! Can you imagine? All the time I had the answer sitting in my inbox! Ha ha.

To make matters even stranger, I don’t even remember writing it. It hardly sounded familiar. Plus, it was dated September 17th, of LAST YEAR! Ha ha. Interesting. A gift from the muse perhaps? ;) I’d say so! Now I’m psyched to get to it!

Back Home

I arrived back home last night after spending several days in upstate New York with my aunt and grandmother. After several really really tough weeks, I’d reached a breaking point and decided it was now or never. If I didn’t leave town, I was going to suffer a complete psychotic breakdown. Thankfully, the vacation came at just the right time.

CBear, always a good sport, called me every day, to see how I was doing. It’s strange to be apart from him for that long, but it was definitely a fun time. I meant to go and relax, maybe work on my edits, update some of my stories, but really, that rarely happens in the presence of my aunt.

Instead, we did late night karaoke, went out to eat at a really fancy little place (where she proceeded to get our waiter’s phone number and secure a date Monday night), followed by after hours Frangelico cordial with the owner of a nice little Italian restaurant- (if you’ve never had drinks in a restaurant when it’s closed, I assure you, it’s surreal. I swear, I wanted to write a scene that very second. I felt tres important). We watched movies, stayed up late, laughed until our sides hurt. It was a really great time.

We did two family dinners. One at my grandmother’s house and one at my aunt’s. My aunt is a chef, so she really pulls out all the stops and sets up the table and candles and drinks. I really love it. It enhances the dining experience threefold. My grandmother is old school Spanish (which is why I love the woman) and she set us up with some fried plantains and garlic mojito (CBear’s favorite).

Even amidst the craziness, I managed to edit chpts 5-6 of my book and get them back to my editor. I’m working on 7 as we speak. So overall, it was surprisingly productive. Ha ha.

I had today off of work, which was really for the best because I got to unwind. Tomorrow, it’s back to real life. I think I’m ready. Either way, I’m definitely feeling more like myself.

The Good News

I know I made you guys wait a long time before I gave you the good news I’d been talking about, but you know what they say: good things come to those who wait. ;) Ha ha.

So, (at some point today) the new issue of Membra Disjecta, an electronic journal that explores and celebrates electronic art, books, authors, and genres- published quarterly and sponsored by Drollerie Press – will be up and running. It’s their second issue. If the first is any indication, it’s going to be awesome.

I’m proud to say I’m going to be a part of it! I have a story being published with them entitled Siren Song. Since the theme for this issue is transformations, the story is based on the mythology of the kelpie. So check it out and tell me what you think! The great thing about the magazine is that it’s free, so anyone and everyone can access it!

And that, my friends, is my good news. :)

Enjoy!

The Lady's Court

Ladies,

I just want to say thank you for being such good sports. I tried everything to figure out why the links weren’t working as images. I still have no clue. *shrugs* I mean, HTML is HTML, you know? It should show. But whatever.

I wanted to feature both Cora Zane and Bettie Sharpe. You ladies are a great sport for coming by, despite the technical difficulties. Bah to that! Sarai, I’m sorry it didn’t work for you honey! And THANK YOU for stopping by either way! :) No worries! I will NOT leave you empty handed.

So, Miss Cora Zane, you are not supposed to look better than the hostess. ;) But you look quite fab in that.

I’d be PROUD to have you as my lady in waiting. ;)

Bettie, leave it up to you to be completely original! I LOVE your costume choice. So different, so dark and fun.

I’d have to say, you definitely have dark and mysterious down packed.

Due to the technical difficulties, I’ve decided to cancel the remaining festivities. HOWEVER, if you feel so compelled, feel free to send me some more of your costumes and I’ll do a costume processional!!! I’m really bummed this didn’t work out the way I expected it to. But overall, I had a killer time setting up the party.

Cora, you have won the copy of Red Queen’s Daughter by Jaqueline Kolosov. I’ll try and send that in the next week.

Bettie, I hope you’re a fan of Gena Showalter. I have a copy of Savor Me Slowly to give away. :) Just email me at isabelle@twistedfairytale.net with your info and I’ll get it right to you.

Sarai, you don’t get to leave empty handed my darling. For attending I will be sending you a copy of The Luxe by Anna Godbersen. Email me at the above address with your info honey!

Again, thank you ladies for helping me make this so much fun! *HUGS*

Don’t forget, post pictures of your costumes in the comments!!!! That way I can feature you! :D If some of you are unsure about how this can be done, if you a free photo album account such as Photobucket or ImageShack they provide HTML links for such an occassion!

The most creative costume will win a copy of The Red Queen’s Daughter by Jacqueline Kolosov.

The Devil's Waltz

For the socialites in you, I bring you the dark, edgy, teen angst ridden version of a masquerade:

I, for one, am a more traditional girl. I like a little paranormal in my galas:
