Wishlist

You know, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my CBear and I’s upcoming anniversary. It’ll be our fifth this year. I’m really proud of this achievement. Five years together without killing one another? We deserve a trophy. ;) Ok, fine. I like him much more than I care to admit. So sue me. Ha ha.

But in all seriousness, these lovey dovey emotions along with Karen Erickson’s cool blog feature (where she lets you know what things she’s kind of obessing over that week) got me thinking about what I should put on my wishlist. And I found a little trinket that I desperately want.

The Ipod Touch!

This little bugger has been making eyes at me for quite some time. It’s packed with all kinds of goodies. An MP3 player, video player to watch movies and tv shows (iTunes is my new best friend), games, and an ereader for my ebooks!!! YAY for that! Plus there are GPS applications, and other fun miscellanious things. It’s a bit pricey, but it would be awesome. Who knows?

If not, I may like a portable washing machine to make laundry easier. A nice, practical gift. :) I’m ok with that.

Stranded in TV Land

I haven’t been feeling too hot this week. Runny nose, exhaustion, a little achy and as usual, very sleep deprived- so I’ve spent most of the week lounging, taking care of Peanut and watching TV. I’ve even gotten a little bit of writing/editing done on my fantasy sequel. It’s overrun with red and blue pen marks. You’d think it was a college thesis or something.

Anyway, my week’s highlight came in the form of American Idol’s Motown week. Adam Lambert’s rendition of “Track of my Tears” was so tender and beautiful that it gave me goosebumps! As someone who’s done karaoke competitions and worked with some talented people on musicals, I was pleasantly suprised by this side of him. I’d pegged him as kind of one track rocker dude. He proved to be so much more!

Check him out:

Thanks to rickey.org for the video!

I also missed tonight’s epic Grey’s Anatomy episode because I was watching The Office and 30 Rock. Why must all these shows be on at the same time? It’s so not fair. And no- I’m not TV obsessed. I’ve just been home too long. I do have a life, I swear.

But I’ll be watching Grey’s online. If I can get the stupid ABC player to work. It hates me.

That's What She Said

Not THIS kind of interview.

NOT THIS KIND OF INTERVIEW!

The amazing Susan Hanniford Crowley, who I met at the Romance and Chocolates Book signing in Farmington, has posted a really fun interview with yours truly! She asked some great questions and let me blab on to my liking (which I obviously have no problem doing, ha ha). I really enjoyed her positive attitude and her contagious energy and we clicked right off the bat.

PLUS- as you will notice from her blog, we’re both Twilight fans. ;) So that’s always a huge plus. I’m always looking for someone to talk Twilight with.

Anyway, check out the interview here! And leave us a comment or question! I know Susan and I would both love to hear from you!

Friday? Really?!

Man, I really suck at this blogging thing. My apologies blog-o-sphere. The days have all kind of melded into one long pool of sleeping, eating, showering and feeding the little one. I truly apologize for my absence. Most days I’m too exhausted to post anything interesting anyway- though I have been able to keep up with blog posts and tried commenting when I had a free minute!

Surprisingly enough, I had a flash of inspiration the day before yesterday and wrote down some notes on my fantasy sequel. I’m so glad I printed that sucker out  before I went into labor. I rewrote the first few paragraphs because the beginning was really annoying me and I started chapter nine. Not bad. ;) I may give it another go in a few days when I’m not totally sleep deprived. But YAY! I count that as a celebration.

I hope you all have an amazing weekend. I have no special plans but I may rent a movie or two. In the meantime, enjoy this awesome dance break from one of my very favorite movies of all time.

Freakin’ hysterical. “I live in my sister’s basement…!” This movie is the one I pop in at 12:30am when Peanut won’t let me sleep and I need to laugh. It rocks.

Monday Morning Weekend Recap

So, it’s Monday morning and I’m proud to say I’m up, showered, and have already had the first half of my McDonald’s Caramel Iced Coffee. And it’s only 11:15am. Not bad. Baby bear had a weigh-in appointment at his pediatrician today. He’s had a lot of latch-on problems and lost a significant amount of weight when we came back from the hospital. I’ve since been referred to a lactation consultant and have followed a weekend boot camp that has thankfully brought him back up to birth weight! As of this morning, he’s actually 2 oz heavier than when he was born – so yay for that!!! I’m so proud of my little munchkin. He’s eating mommy out of house and home but it’s nice to see him doing well. He’s so much healthier and more alert now that he’s eating properly.

The weekend was filled with timed bottle feedings, pumping, and television. LOTS of television – because otherwise, I fall asleep. (Just about anything knocks me out these days). Because of my unusual schedule, I’ve found myself enjoying things on TV I would never have given a chance before.

CBear has been following the March Madness games. Although I’m a fan of basketball, I’ve never been big on watching games on TV. I like the live stuff, find it much more exciting. However, I have to admit that the last few Syracuse games have been something to watch! Their 6 overtime game against UCONN?! Seriously. That’s exciting stuff. And it’s suddenly given me the hankering to head to the park and play a game of bball myself. I think this summer will be full of healthy activity!

I also saw an episode of a show called Legend of the Seeker. I’d never seen the show before but I’d heard of it. I watched an entire episode and found myself engrossed nearly immediately. It’s very Arthurian looking. It has monsters, magic, and all kinds of major good and evil stuff going on. It made me eager to get back to writing, particularly the fantasy story sequel I left hanging at the climax right before I gave birth! Now I’m itching to go online and watch all the episodes available. I may have just found a fun new show. Let’s hope all the episodes are as fun and intense as the one I saw. Otherwise, I’ll be sorely disappointed.

I’ll admit, I’m a little bummed that I won’t be able to attend a Twilight DVD party. But I’m hoping to send the hubster out to buy me a copy. I’m itching to reread New Moon in honor of the pre-production filming stuff they’ve got going on up in Vancouver. ;)

So wow, this post is way longer than I expected it to be. Let me go finish watching THE VIEW and get myself a nap in before Peanut wakes up. And can I just finish off by saying that it’s totally unfair how gorgeous Elisabeth Hasselback looks pregnant? I never looked that good. Blah to her.

Happy Monday all!

Tales of a Sleep Deprived Momma Bear

Somehow it’s been an entire (work) week since my last entry. It was hard to keep track of the days that passed in a blur of 2 hour feedings, a crying newborn, a hormonally challenged new mother, and breastfeeding blues. Although it’s been quiet on the blog, things have not been quiet in the Santiago household.

I know many authors are stay at home moms. I have an entirely new respect for all of you. I know how difficult it is to be motivated to write on a regular day. I can’t imagine dealing with a baby, an infant, a toddler… on top of all that. Granted, I’m only 2 weeks into this new adventure and a lot of it is still completely overwhelming. But still. I’d like to be reminded that life will slow down and return to some semblance of normal. Because between the total lack of sleep (I get about 4-5 hours broken up in 1 1/2 hour increments throughout the day) and the emotional wreckage that is making sure you’re doing all you can for your new child, I think I’m worn a little thin.

This all gets better right?

At least its Friday and CBear will be around during the weekend. I’m hoping the extra hand will mean at least an extra hour of sleep for mommy. Cause she’s a cranky bear.

Cross-eyed Wanderer

Monday. Blargh,

Most people will agree with me. It’s the toughest day of the week. After a nice weekend with friends and family it can be tough going back to work. Granted, I didn’t go to work. I didn’t write either, although I thought about both. But glancing at the couch, I realized I’d much rather nap before Peanut woke up for another feeding. And the nap won out. Can you blame me?

But I thought I’d post a little video that made my Monday brighter. Have yourself a laugh and remember, Friday will be here before we know it. (I hope).

Duuude…

Anyone who has read New Moon and follows the Twilight fandom may already know this, however, this news just came to me this evening and I’ll admit, I’m thrilled.

The Twilight Lexicon posted that Dakota Fanning has been officially cast as Jane in New Moon- according to a mass email sent by Summit to the subscribers of TwilightTheMovie.com

She’s been a fan favorite for a while and I’ve seen tons of fanart depicting her as Jane before there was even talk about a movie being made. The thing is, Dakota has that perfect mixture of angelic innocence and ageless wisdom that shines from her eyes which makes me think she might actually posses the power to fry people with just a thought. *Firefly flashback: “Also, I can kill you with my brain.”* (Why can’t I insert soundbytes? Wouldn’t that rock?)

For those of you wondering- yes, I am this corny. I’m a fangirl through and through. And I’m not ashamed to admit it. :-P

The Art of 4am Feedings

Is there really an art form to this? Probably not. They’re exhausting, but I definitely think expecting them helps. I forced myself to bed early, napped when I could and by the time Peanut woke up crying at 3:55am, I expected it and woke up with a bundle of adrenaline energy. I fed him, sang to him (low so as not to wake a very sleepy hubby who’d been up with him during the last feeding to let me catch a few extra zzz’s), changed his diaper, and then rocked him to sleep. The last bit I managed to do while checking my email and Facebook accounts. Ha ha. I am the queen of the multi-task.

I also find that little Peanut thoroughly enjoys music and us singing to him. C-Bear is brilliant in this department. He can make up songs on the spot (usually ripped from real songs with ridiculous new lyrics). Peanut loves when Daddy does that. He stares at him like he’s crazy but he gets really quiet and listens. ^_^ I tend to just sing him some 80s classics. It’s imperative that he learn those. :-P

I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday. This week is flying by! Happy hump day to all. May the rest of your week be filled with productive and exciting activities!
