Turtle Feet, Surfer's Beat

It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it. ~Oscar Wilde

Every book affects us, changes us, molds us. We may not know it at the time, but in the end, we realize just what an impact it has made when days, months, even years after you find that a small moment replays in your mind. Huh, you may think to yourself, I read that somewhere once before. Books have the ability to really touch the human heart. A life changed.

Every so often, a book comes along that not only strives to change one heart, but change the world. And oh what a task it is! Which is why I’m so proud to give you a sneak peek into a very worthwhile book/cause by a person who truly is making a difference: Marina Kuperman. Let me tell you a little something about this amazing woman.

About 4 years ago, her husband received a full grant to get his Master’s in wild life management. This wonderful opportunity sent them to: COSTA RICA! They loved it so much, they decided to stay. And who could really blame them?

One day, while visiting Tamarindo Beach and Playa Grande she toured Las Baulas Marine National Park (a Leatherback Turtle Biological Center), where you can actually watch the turtles lay their eggs. A mother herself, she was struck suddenly by the notion that these animals might soon cease to exist.

Hence, Turtle Feet, Surfer’s Beat was born.

10% of all the proceeds go directly to saving the Leatherback Turtle and other marine animals.

The official publication date of ‘Turtle Feet, Surfer’s Beat’ is November 15, 2007. But you can buy the ebook and read it now!!! or if you pre-order today you will get a kick-ass gift with your book just in time for the holiday season for helping out a good cause. – From Marina’s official website.

Interested? You should be! It’s a great cause! And check out the amazingly cute storyline:

PENELOPE LENNOX is in for the surprise of her life. No, make that two!

Thanks to her father’s photo assignment, Penelop e is dragged away from her comfortable life in suburbia and brought to Costa Rica. In the process her boyfriend of two years decides he’s not into long distance relationships and dumps her two days before her trip. However, broken-heartedness and dejection turn out to be the least of her concerns. Upon arrival Penelope’s mother informs her that she’s been registered to do a two-week volunteer session at the Leatherback Turtle Biological Center.

The rundown dormitory-styled station is fully equipped with an overzealous conservationist, a biologist whose social skills resemble a hermit crab, thousands of mosquitoes, and a cockroach the size of a baseball. Nevertheless, all is forgiven once Penelope has her first encounter with the prehistoric turtle and promises to do all she can to help save it from complete extinction.

But hang ten, dudes! Penelope is about to get some unexpected help! While patrolling the beach for poachers and other predators, Penelope gracelessly trips over the only branch sticking out of the sand and miraculously ends up in the arms of gorgeous but yet oh-so humble KENDALL BROWNE, Central America’s surf champ and most popular resident of Tamarindo Beach.

Kendall submerges Penelope into his world of wave riding and his lifetime goal to preserve marine life. Their combined determination leads them into a life-or-death situation with Costa Rica’s notorious black-market turtle poachers as they struggle to secure the turtles’ survival.

Not only has Marina written an adorable book: (check out the great excerpt for a taste) she’s gone a step further and created a real community of activists who care. Surfers, musicians, actors, kooky scientists and more all united for a common cause.

More than anything else, she’s aimed this world changing message at teens, because teens are in fact, our future. If we can educate them and teach them now, their future actions can mean a safer, cleaner, more wonderful world. Bravo Marina! You should be very proud.
